ECU Joondalup under 20’s are in State League Cup action on Monday when they take on Stirling Lions in the Semi-Final of the State League Reserves Cup at Macedonia Park.

The Lions overcame Division Two side Quinns FC 4-2 in the Quarter-Final, while ECU striker Bayley Brown-Montgomery scored a last minute winner to beat Perth Glory 1-0. ECU Coach Howard Tweats said the win against the Glory was a great reward for his players. “We had our backs to the wall, but we had a game plan and it worked a treat against the Glory on the day,” he said.

“We’d played them the week before and were well beaten, but we had six players missing and the players that came back in did a superb job to come out on top.”

Tweats said the Lions’ position on the table doesn’t matter in a cup tie, and they need to be switched on from the first whistle.  “Cup football is a different beast, and they (Stirling) have home ground advantage, and we need to ready for a tough game,” he said.

“We beat them 3-1 in the league at the same venue, but it was a tight game, and I believe Monday will be the same.

The chance to play in a Cup Final is something every player wants to achieve, and both sides are ninety plus minutes away from that, and we will be doing everything we can to be the one to go through.”
