ECU Joondalup duo George Jackson and Ciaran Bramwell have helped the West Australian Under 14’s side to a runners-up spot in the National Championships in Coffs Harbour.
The WA youngster were pipped for the title by only one point by Vic Metro, and striker Bramwell, who bagged a goal against South Australia to help the side to 4-0 win on day four, said it was good tournament for the WA side.
“We played six matches, winning four and drawing the other two, so to go through the tournament undefeated was a great effort,” he explained. “I played in all the games, a full game against South Australia, where I opened the scoring, and five half games.
“I really enjoyed the experience and it was a great tournament. All of the other state teams had some talented players and it was a good result for WA. Being able to play with, and against some of the best players in the country was fantastic.”
Jackson also enjoyed the trip, but a serious injury in the final game but a dampener on it for the keeper. “It was a great experience for me, and I really enjoyed it,” he explained.
“The pace and quality of football was another level to the NPL, and all the matches were tough and could have gone either way. Unfortunately in the last minute of the last game I broke my arm making a save, which wasn’t how I wanted to end the tournament.”
The ECU custodian said his highlight of the tournament was the last game against a strong NSW Metro side. “I played three full games against Vic Metro, NNSW, and NSW Metro and I was happy with my performances,” he explained. “I felt I didn’t make any mistakes and I made some important saves.
“My highlight was against NSW Metro, a game we needed to win to keep our hopes of winning the tournament. We were 2-1 up with five minutes to play and I pulled off two important saves to keep our lead.”
