Sorrento up next for ECU in Night Series

ECU Joondalup will take on Sorrento in a northern suburbs derby at Dorrien Gardens, in week two of the NPL-WA Night Series (6.30pm)

Dale McCulloch’s side were beaten 2-0 in the opening game against Cockburn City, but the coach was pleased with his young chargers. “We played a number of younger players last week, and they never let us down,” he said. “The competition is important to get ready for round one in the league, and Friday will be no different. We had a number of players unavailable, and we will get a few back this week, but the more game time we play the better it will be.”

Jamie Serra, Guy McDonald, Ronald River, Conor Ready and Bayley Brown-Montgomery all made their starting debuts for the club and McCulloch thought they all did a good job. “Young Bayley is a special player and it was great see him have a run with his old man,” he explained. “We couldn’t take the smile of Monty’s face, it’s not often a father and son, play in the Premier League side together. Jamie performed well in goal and saved the penalty, while Guy and Roland were good.  Conor performed well in the hot conditions, he is used to playing in the rain or snow in the UK. But overall I was happy, we have a strong squad this season, with players pushing for a starting position, and you can see that in training which is good.”

Sorrento has lost a number of players from their squad from last season, and are coming off a 5-0 loss against Perth SC. So both teams will want to bounce back from the losses last week and any local derby is tight, and tonight’s game will be no different.
