English midfielder Joe Smith is the 2015 ECU Joondalup ‘Player of the Year’ after the club end of season presentation night at Currambine Function Room, Currambine Bar & Bistro on Friday night.

Smith, who heads back to the UK this month after his visa ended, was delighted to win the award. “To win an award is always something great to look back on, so I’m proud I was able to do so in my three seasons here,” he said.

“I’ve had a blast since arriving here three years ago it’s been an absolutely pleasure to play for the club but also to meet everyone down at ECU from supporters through to the lads in the dressing room I’ve made some true mates here. Special mention to John and Wendy Higgins without them I wouldn’t of had this experience.”

The midfielder is looking to put his feet up when he returns to the UK, but he said football is still a huge part of his life. “When we go back I haven’t made any immediate plans to play for anyone as we go smack bang in the middle of a season over there,” he said.

“I’ll be busy setting myself up for work hopefully so I’m looking forward to the extra-long break for now, but you never know what’s around the corner.”
