ECU Joondalup hit the road this weekend, when they travel to Inglewood Stadium to take on Perth Glory on Saturday (3pm)

In their last game they went down 3-1 at home against local rivals Sorrento, but Coach Dale McCulloch said his young side played really well. “Like all season I can’t praise enough the players’ effort against Sorrento, and we matched them for most of the game, that’s all I can ask,” he said.

“We took the lead and deserved too, and we played some really good stuff, but when your down the bottom of the table you don’t get that little bit of luck, and with us pushing for the equaliser late, we conceded an own goal, but that’s football.”

McCulloch said his players have been great through this disappointing run of results, but he said they need to stay strong, and Saturday’s game against the Glory youngsters will be a difficult one. “The young lads we’ve brought in have been great and they have not let me or the club down,” he explained.

“This week will be a very tight game, and they (Glory) will be buoyed by last week’s win against Subiaco. We will go there looking for the three points, like we do each week, and I’m confident if we play to our best we will win.”

It will be mixed emotions for former ECU midfielder Dejan Spaseski who comes up against his former club. “I started playing at ECU when I was 12 years old and eventually made my senior debut at the age of 16 for the club,” he said.“I loved every minute of it, from all my junior years to my few years of senior football at the club, but on Saturday I’ll be doing all I can to get the three points for the Glory”.

Spaseski was pivotal last week when the Glory beat Subiaco AFC and he said the boys are looking for a repeat effort this weekend. “It was a great all round performance by all the boys and it was a result that was a long time coming and thoroughly deserved,” he explained.

“The three points and the clean sheet, has given us a huge boost and will hopefully give us some momentum going into this week’s games”.“The past three games have seen Nikola and Stefan score six goals between them and their partnership is proving to be vital for our team going forward.“But this all starts with our goalkeeper, defence and midfielders who have all been superb in supplying chances for both our strikers.”

Kick off for Steve Amphlett’s under 18’s is 11am, and Mark Windeatt at 1pm, while the first team kicks off at 3pm.
