ECU Joondalup keeper Jamie Serra says the win against Sorrento in the Rivalry Round has kicked started their season, and they will be looking to continue with their climb up the table when they meet Perth Glory on Saturday

The 2-1 win at Percy Doyle Reserve was the first for the club this season, but Serra said they have had a tough start to the season playing the top three sides, but the squad is gelling nicely. “It has taken us a little while to find our feet this season after a very demanding first few weeks,” he said. “The win at Sorrento was a major lift for our team and reignited the belief that we are very capable of taking maximum points from each game and has certainly lifted the spirits amongst the boys. Hopefully we can use this lift to go on and continue to take maximum points from each game.”

The side has had a break since the last game and Serra said a number of players with niggling injuries have had time to recover. “It was disappointing to be knocked out of the cup, but the two week break has given us some time to rejuvenate our bodies after the demanding start to the season,” he said. “Although our squad is yet to be determined, training has been high tempo and places are up for grabs, and I’m sure most of the boys are ready to go and will be fighting for a spot in the starting line-up.”

Serra believes the Glory youngsters have improved this season and the draw at Floreat Athena last week showed they are really competitive. “The results so far show that no team is to be underestimated this season and Perth Glory Youth proved that by pinching a late point in their 2-2 draw with a strong Floreat side in the ANZAC clash,” he said. “That being said, no doubt we will be ready to go come Saturday and try to take all three points.”
