ECU Joondalup v Subiaco AFC – Preview

Posted on May 29, 2015 in 'News'

ECU Joondalup return home this weekend, when they entertain Subiaco AFC at the ECU Football Stadium on Saturday in week nine of the PS4 National Premier League WA (3pm)

A disappointing result last time out against Stirling Lions saw ECU losing 2-4. Paul Miller opened his account for the club at Macedonia Park with a brace, but Coach Dale McCulloch said they need to start converting their chances. “We have struggled to finish off our chances in recent weeks, and we will have to rectify that sooner rather than later,” said McCulloch.

“As a coach I can’t be more pleased with the player’ attitude and endeavour, but we are making simple errors, or switching off for a split second and we are getting punished, and I will be looking for a response from last week’s defeat at Stirling on Saturday.”

Subiaco arrive for Saturday’s game after losing 0-1 against Cockburn City last week in a tight game, and they will also have one eye on the FFA Cup quarter Final against Perth SC on Monday, but McCulloch says they will be up for the game and his players will have to work hard to earn the points.

“Subiaco surprised made teams last season and they will be desperate for three points here, and Gerry (McEwen) will have them up for the game,” McCulloch said. “So we know we will have to be at our best to take the points, and I’m confident we can.”

The ECU squad has been hit hard with injuries, and McCulloch will be continuing to embrace the NPL by rewarding some of the clubs younger players, who have been impressing at training and in the under 23’s, including Bayley Montgomery, Ollie Annis, Ronald Rixer, Cian Hirrell and Kye Douglas, all who have come through the ECU academy

Both the under 18’s (11am) and under 23’s (1pm) take on Subiaco, and both are top of the table clashes – Get down early and watch the youngster in action!!
