The ECU Joondalup SC academy were involved in games on Saturday in the Cup and Sunday the League. Here are the results and coaches comments for the games.

Under 12’s

Brian McLatchie’s under 12’s played two games over last weekend, and came out on top in both. It started with a 3-1 Cup win over Cockburn City, with goals from Covey Leigh-Smith, Harry Fletcher and Lewis Tucker. That was followed by a 4-2 NPL win against Floreat Athena, with Harry Fletcher bagging two, Covey Leigh-Smith and Daniel Faichney. “Both games were comfortable wins, but there is a concern not converting overall dominance into goals,” said McLatchie. “When the players asked the question on how they viewed the performance on Sunday, the answer was sloppy, so we know we have a bit of work to do this week. We have a guest NPL player with us on Monday to work on our movement in the last third, which will help us going forward.”

Under 13’s

The under 13’s moved into the next round of the cup on Saturday after a 24-0 win against Beelair. The side played well with Jake Kingston bagging a double hat-trick. On Sunday they were beaten 0-4 at Floreat Athena. “We played poorly against a good Floreat side,” Coach Charlie Comyn-Platt said. “We will learn from the defeat and hope to improve against Armadale next week.” Ben Ford had another solid game at right back and was Man of the Match.

Under 14’s

The under 14’s moved into the next round of the Cup on Saturday with a comprehensive 8-0 win against Balga, with best on the ground Miki Imrie bagging a hat-trick.

On Sunday the continued their good league form, with a very good team performance in a 4-0 win against Floreat Athena. “I couldn’t have asked for anymore from the lads, it was a joy to watch,” said Coach Willie Herd. Goal scorers were Blake Burgess, Bengan Aivd and Miki Imrie with a brace. Best on Ground – Josh Carroll with

Under 15’s

The under 15’s had an easy win against Westside, the young side running out 23-0 winners. Star man was Corey Hyde, filling the bag with seven goals

On Sunday they had a 5-2 win over Floreat Athena. “It was a scappy affair in the first half and ECU led 1-0 at the break with Luke Salmon on target,” said Coach Willie Herd. “The second half saw a massive improvement from the lads where dynamite movement, passing and the goals were fantastic to watch. The second half goals came from Corey Hyde and Joe Knight both scoring twice. Best on Ground – Kieron Craig.

Under 16’s

Syd Amphlett’s Under 16’s had a 4-0 win against Floreat Athena. It was scoreless at half time, but ECU dominated without finding the target.  But within five minutes of the restart James Owen put them in front. Harry Gent extended the lead with a glorious shot from the edge of the penalty area. Floreat’s heads dropped and ECU began to dominate and added further goals from Man of the Match Joe Middleton and Keylun Pollard. “A pleasing second half from the boys, and we over ran Floreat and could have scored a few more,” Coach Syd Amphlett said. “We are working hard at training and the team is improving each week which is pleasing.”
