ECU Joondalup under 20’s have moved into the Semi-Final of the State League Cup after a 3-0 win against South West Phoenix at Percy Doyle Reserve on Monday.

A first half strike from Ben Wantee and second half goals to substitutes Roland Rixer and Jake Davies were enough. Coach Danny Stevens was delighted with the performance. “It was tough for both sides, backing up from Saturday’s league games, but we played some great football and we totally deserved the win,” he said.

It was tight affair in the first half, but ECU headed to the rooms with a 1-0 lead, thanks to Wantee’s clinical finish at the near post, after good work from Joel Prout.

The midfield battle was being won by ECU with Prout and Ollie Annis outstanding, and further goals from Rixer and Davies sealed the win.

There was another good performance from Cian Hirrell, who played for the first team on Saturday against Subiaco AFC, but he spoilt his performance when he received a red card later in the game meaning he will miss the semi-final.
