ECU Joondalup return home this weekend to take on second placed Floreat Athena at the ECU Football Stadium on Saturday (3pm)

Buoyed by their comeback 2-2 draw against Perth Glory last week, ECU Coach Dale McCulloch said it has given them a huge lift.

“We could have lost the plot and got beaten by five or six, but the lads knuckled down and fought it out and showed some great character on the day,” he said

“The young lads were great and I thought Josh Tucker was outstanding and was the best player on the pitch.”

The coach welcomes back some experienced players to the squad this week, with defender Charlie Comyn-Platt and Stuart Montgomery returning, and he said they are looking forward to the game against a good Floreat side.

“It’s good to have a couple of experience heads back in squad and we are really looking forward to the challenge,” McCulloch said.

“The table doesn’t lie, and they are the only team to keep in touch with Bayswater and are playing some good football.

“They touched us up at their place earlier in the season, and we hope to put in a better performance on Saturday.

“It looks like there will no relegation this season, but we don’t want to finish at the bottom of the table.

“The lads are working extremely hard on the track, and are up for this game, and we will go into it looking to win it, and if we can replicate how we finished last week we will go close.”

Floreat need to keep picking up the points to keep tabs on Bayswater and have only lost once on the road this season.

They welcome back English striker Lewis McMahon from suspension, and Aryn Williams from his trial at Newcastle Jets, but Steve Burton and Jack Allen will miss.

The under 18’s kick off at 11am, the under 20’s at 1pm, while the first team starts at 3pm.
