ECU Joondalup striker Stuart Montgomery returns to his former club on Saturday, when ECU take on Sorrento at Percy Doyle Reserve.

The striker who joined the club last month, enjoyed a successful spell at the Gulls, helping them to win the Premier League title in 2012, but he will doing his bit to get ECU over the line come Saturday afternoon. “This week’s game is massive and with it being ‘Rivalry Round’ just adds that extra bit of tension to the contest,” Montgomery said.

“Having played, and won the league with Sorrento, it will be a little bit weird going back to play against them again, but I’m looking forward to it and hopefully we can get the three points to help us move up the table. “Percy Doyle Reserve, aka Windy Hill, is always a hard place to go and it will be no different this week, as they will be trying to keep up with the leaders, but we go their looking to get back into the winners circle.”

ECU were beaten for the first time in five games last week, with a 1-4 loss at home to Floreat Athena, a result Montgomery never saw coming. “Last week result was very disappointing, especially after the last few results for us,’ he said.

“We felt confident going into the game, and maybe getting the early goal was a disadvantage, but credit to Athena, they played the conditions better than us and took their chances.”
