ECU Joondalup were today drawn against First Division side Shamrock Rovers in the second round of the Football West Cool Ridge Cup.

The game will be played at the ECU Football Arena on Easter Monday (21st April) with a 2.30pm kick off.

Joondalup coach Dale McCulloch is happy with the draw, as it’s a home game. “It’s a great draw for us at home,” he said. “We play well at our place and were looking at making it into a fortress.”

The coach however knows it will be tough game, as the Rovers impressed last season under Coach John O’Reilly. “We know we will have to be at our best against Shamrock, and we will not be underestimating them,” he said.

“We would have had a tough battle at home to Balcatta on the Saturday before the cup game, like they will against Ashfield, but if we can play our best on the day we can beat anyone

“We need to start getting some consistently into our play, and that starts on Saturday against Bayswater City in the league, that’s the only game I’m focusing on at the moment.”

Shamrock thrashed fellow First Division side Morley Windmills 7-2 in the Preliminary round, overcame Fremantle Croatia 4-1 in the First Round.

Coach John O’Reilly is looking forward to the tie. “They will be favorites for the game, so the pressure is on them not to lose,” said O’Reilly.

“We have had a good pre-season and for us this will be a cup final in itself.”
