It’s the penultimate National Premier League-WA games of the season and ECU Joondalup host Stirling Lions at the ECU Football Arena. (3pm)

ECU coach Dale McCulloch is looking to end the season on a high, and is hoping for maximum points against the Lions and Subiaco AFC next week.

“In this last home game we come up against a strong Stirling side, which we have already had some good battles with this season. After falling to them in both the league and the semi-finals of the cup, we will be looking to get one back this weekend and give our supporters something to cheer about in our last home game,” he said.

“We are looking to end the season on a high by winning our last two games, but we have to be at our best, starting Saturday against Stirling.”

The Coach also had a word for the ECU academy and under 18’s, which have been outstanding in the first season of the NPL. “In the first season of the NPL we have been extremely proud of the club and all of our supporters embracing the concept and showing ECU to be one of the leading teams in player development in WA,” he said.

“We would like to send our congratulations to the Under 12’s and 13’s winning their respective leagues, with the Under 15’s and Under 18’s currently top of the league. This is a great achievement for the club and shows that ECU is still producing quality footballers for the future.”

Former Perth Glory keeper Aleks Vrteski pins a tight Lions defence with Andy Brown, Dennis  Galen, Clayton Arnez and Jovo Pavlovic. David Micevski, Jack Salter, Hayden Doyle and Rikki Smith are among the new faces at the club this season, while from last season Dean Evans, Phil Arnold, Moses Kalau and Miki Vujacic are the quality Williams has at his disposal.

They struggled earlier in the season in the league with injuries curtailing their progress, but it looks like those are clearing and a spot in the FFA Cup against Brisbane Roar is just around the corner

They arrive at the Arena after a 2-1 defeat at home to Perth SC, a result that has left their Finals aspirations in doubt, and they need to win all their games and hope other results will go their way.

In team news ECU are at full strength for the game, while Hayden Doyle is in doubt for the Lions.
