ECU Joondalup and Stirling Lions do battle in the Semi-Final of the Cool Ridge Cup on Monday at the ECU Football Arena (5pm)

The prize for the winner is a spot in Cool Ridge Cup Final and the Westfield FFA Cup. A new cup competition which features teams from the A-League as well as the National Premier Leagues and other state based leagues in Australia.

ECU Coach Dale McCulloch is looking forward to the game and knows the importance of it for the club. “We’re ready for a big game and the players have responded well after our loss at Stirling last week, and have trained well this week,” he said.

“It’s a huge game for the club and everyone is buzzing, a chance to represent the state in the FFA Cup is exciting, but we have to get over The Lions first, who are playing well at the moment.

ECU got back to the winners circle in the NPL-WA on Saturday with a 2-1 win against Subiaco AFC, and the Coach was happy to come out of the game with the points and no injuries.

“We were not at our best against Subiaco on Saturday; we let them back into the game which wasn’t good, but the boys showed good character in coming back for the three points, plus no injuries which is pleasing for Monday,” McCulloch said.

The Lions had two players sent off in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Armadale. Miki Vujacic and Jovo Pavlovic were both shown red cards and will not be available on Monday.

The Lions beat Joondalup City 2-0 in round one, before thrashing Rockingham City 8-1 in the second. They came from 0-2 down to beat Floreat Athena in the quarter finals after extra time, with goals from Daniel Micevski, David Micevski and the winner coming from Jack Salter.
