A new era of Football in Western Australia begins on Saturday, with the new National Premier League kicking off, and first up ECU Joondalup entertain Cockburn City  at the ECU Arena (3pm)

It’s been a huge preparation for the game with the ECU Arena now complete with the new NPL and sponsors banners added around the ground. The club would like to thank the club volunteers and committee members who helped to do this.

ECU Coach Dale McCulloch is looking forward to the new season, and is expecting a tough opener against City, who is coached by former ECU midfielder Marc Anthony. “We are all set and raring to go. The team has worked hard in the off season and we have strengthened the squad and looking forward to the season proper,” said McCulloch.

“Saturday we come up against Marc and his side which will be a tough start they had a really good season last year. Our players shouldn’t need any extra motivation; we’ve prepared well and ready to go, and get the season off with a home win.”

ECU has a full squad to choose from with new signing’s David Foster, Lee Jones and Ryan McDarby, all coming into the squad.

Cockburn were the surprise team last season, making all the way to the Top Five Finals and their coach is hoping for the same this time around. “Things are going ok, we have a lot of young faces that have joined the club, and hopefully we can progress from last year and have a successful season,” said Anthony.

“It’s a fantastic first game against ECU, who are a fantastic club with a youth set up to match. Coming up against a mate in Dale McCulloch I’m sure it will be a very tough game for both sides but one we’re looking forward to.”
