With big striker Lee Jones leaving the club to travel Australia, Dale McCulloch has been on the search for a replacement striker, and this week he signed former ECU Joondalup striker Stuart Montgomery.

The 36-year-old is already involved with the club, as an assistant coach for ECU under 10’s academy side, while his son Bayley plays for the under 15’s academy side.

Coach Dale McCulloch is delighted to have signed the experienced marksman. “We knew we would be losing Lee, but injuries at the club have made it really important to get a player as soon as possible, and to get someone with the experience of Stuart is great,” he said.

“He trained really well this week and we hope he is cleared to play on the weekend at Stirling. We know what we have got, a player who knows were the goal is and a player that can bring others into the game, and I believe Stuart will be a great acquisition to our club.”

Montgomery, who was part of the ECU 1999 Premier League winning side under coach Paul ‘Geordie’ Williams, last played for First Division side Wanneroo City, but he is looking forward to be part of ECU again. “When Dale asked me it didn’t take long to make up my mind, and I’m really excited to be playing for ECU again,” he said. “I hope I can add some experience to the side and we can make a push for the finals, starting at Macedonia Park on Saturday.”
