ECU Joondalup’s league campaign takes a break this weekend, when they travel to Dorrien Gardens to take on Perth SC in the First Round of the Football West Cool Ridge Cup on Saturday (3pm)

“We have a number of players still unavailable for the cup tie, but we’re looking forward to the challenge,” said Coach Salv Todaro.

With Andy and Jon Higgins, Tanner Selyer and Dejan Spaseski out injured, they will also be missing Igor Novakovic duo to work commitments, but Todaro is expecting a good performance from his side. “We’ve trained well this week and the players are looking forward to playing Perth at Dorrein Gardens, and working on putting some consistency into our season and continue to work on our structure,” explained Todaro.

“We all know cup games are always exciting as a result needs to be had on the day and we’ll be going there to get the right result.”

Perth have struggled this season to date but won for the first time last week against Cockburn City. New English signings Ashley Corker, and Clark Keltie made their debuts for the club last week in the win, while Kris Gate returned from injury to bolster the back four. Mauro Marchione will be sweating on the fitness of David and Daniel Micevski who both missed last week win.

Defender Josh Wilkins is looking forward to the game. “After last week’s performance it has definitely given us a new confidence when coming up against ECU this weekend,” said Wilkins.

“Unfortunately for us we haven’t had the most exciting start to the season only managing seven points from six games however, saying that we are an extremely new and fairly inexperienced team and it’s only a matter of time before we gell.

“Last week’s win we took an extremely positive step moving forward as a team which I’m sure will benefit us in preparation for this weekend’s game.”
