ECU Joondalup’s 2013 pre-season began last weekend with all three teams taking on Football West Second Division side Melville City.

It was a successful start to their campaign with all three teams running out comprehensive winners.  The first team won 9-0 with Andrew Kiir on target four times, Jon Higgins added a couple while Tom Jones and Tanner Selyer added singles with the other coming from an own goal. 4

Senior Coach Salv Todaro was happy with the performance. “It was a good work out for all teams in hot humid conditions and we hope to step it up even further against Dianella White Eagles on Sunday at the ECU Arena (20th January – 9am kick off),” Todaro said.

“The Dianella game gives the squad another opportunity to have good work out before the night series, players that didn’t play last week will be given opportunity to get some run in their legs this week. We will continue to focus and work on our structure.”

New Reserves coach Bobby Taneski was also happy with his first game in charge after a 9-1 win against Melville, and the under 18’s also won by the same scoreline.  Josh Auguste scored a hat-trick, Gavin Gillies and Gareth Crawley added two each with Dennis and Justin Pearce adding singles in the reserves win.  “We are building a young squad, so there will always be plenty to learn each coming week, this week our focus is on being patient in our build up play, last game too many times we gave the ball away too cheaply,” said Taneski.

“We are looking forward to the Dianella game, getting more exposure to games is important at this time of the year and definitely looking forward to the players getting accustomed to one another’s style.”
