ECU Joondalup begin life under new coach Dale McCulloch when they host Cockburn City at the ECU Stadium on Saturday (3pm)

McCulloch was appointed as coach last week and he has already stamped his authority on the squad. “I’m not really interested in what has happened here in the past. I don’t mean any disrespect to the great achievements of ECU Joondalup over the years. It is simply that now there is only one way to go, and that is forward,” said McCulloch.

“I only want players here who are determined to achieve, I’m only interested in players who really want to play for ECU Joondalup and who, like me, are bad losers.”

The last home game was a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Bunbury, something McCulloch hopes is behind them now. “The loss to Bunbury really hurt the playing group, but we’ve have set a game plan and worked on it over and over so every player knows the jobs and to what level of performance is acceptable,” explained McCulloch.

Unfortunately McCulloch will have to watch the game from the sidelines, as he serves a two match suspension after getting sent off against Bunbury, knows Cockburn will be tough to beat. “They have had some very good results of late, and I’m sure Marc will have them well organised and playing an exciting brand of football. I’m looking forward to seeing how our boys react after the poor result against Bunbury,” he said. In team news Charlie Comyn-Platt  and Ryan Townsend come back into the squad for the weekend.

Cockburn coach Marc Anthony played for Joondalup in 2007 after coming over from Scotland. He took over from Scott Miller at The Cockerels earlier in the season. “It’s going to be an extremely difficult game, made even harder now that Dale is in charge. I know he will do a great job up there, and I fully expect them to start getting results,” said Anthony.

“It will be a good test for us, especially after losing a few players to other clubs in the last week of the transfer deadline.”
