ECU head to Dalmatinac Park on Saturday to take on Scott Miller’s Cockburn City in Round three of the All Flags Premier League (3pm)

After letting a 2-0 lead slip against Stirling Lions last week Coach Salv Todaro is hoping for a response from his side. “We are eagerly waiting the game but very much aware that Cockburn will be out for a much needed win,” said Todaro.

“We have four players out, Matt Italiano, Andy Higgins, Jon Higgins and Scott Blackmore, plus a couple who will have late fitness test, so we are a little undermanned but the squad trained well this week, and young 16 year old Joe Knowles will be making his senior debut, exciting times for us.”

“Having said all that, I am looking for a good performance from my team, and will be aiming to take something from the game.”

Joondalup defender Igor Novakovic is looking forward to the game, and he thought they deserved something from last week’s defeat. “I thought we deserved a drew at least last week, but that’s football,” said Novakovic.

“They were a very good side, but we let them have too much space and time, and made a couple of silly mistakes at the back that cost us. We had a clear penalty and a goal ruled out for offside at a very crucial point of the game after that it didn’t go our way and we felt wrong done by those decisions. We had a couple of chances to win the game, but their keeper made some great saves and later we were punished again from more mistakes we made.”

ECU are away from home for the next two weeks and Novakovic believes it’s important to get a result on Saturday. “We have two tough games away from home against Cockburn and Floreat than Baysie at home, so we need to get something from the games away from home,” explained Novakovic.

“Cockburn have lost both games, but have played well. From what I hear they are a good side they played night series final they are a team that works hard and wants to look for that top five spot like us, so it will be a very good entertaining game.”
