Cameron Burgess left the ECU Arena last season to join the Fulham FC Academy and after a stellar season the defender has been rewarded with a call up into the Scotland Under 19’s squad for the up-coming games against Israel.

Burgess, who was a regular in the ECU first team last season, is enjoying his time at Fulham and the 17-year-old has helped the Under 18’s to the top of the Under 18’d Premier League Table. “I love it here at the moment all is good. The experience is unbelievable, the club are sitting top of the league at the moment before the semi-final split,” he said.

Last month Fulham travelled to America to take part in the Dallas Cup, which is an international football tournament for invited youth teams. It involved teams from all over the word including Manchester United, Eintracht Frankfurt, Fluminense and LA Galaxy, and the Cottagers beat Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol in the Final 5-1 to win it.

“The tournament was great to be a part of. There are some superstars like Wayne Rooney, Clint Dempsey and Hernandez who have played in the tournament before. The standard was top drawer, so it was good to be a part of it all and delighted we came away as Champions,” Burgess explained.

Scotland youth Coach Ricky Sbragia has named the 17-year-old Burgess, for two friendly matches against Israel to played on 22nd and 24th April.

The squad includes players born in 1995 or later and will form next season’s under-19 group that will take part in the UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualification round in Germany in October. “Obviously it’s great to get selected but I try not to think about that as I just want to focus on each day at training and games when they come, but I’m looking forward to it,” Burgess said.
