Football West has announced the 2013 All Flags State Premier League season will kick off on Saturday, March 16.

ECU Joondalup make the long trip to take on Bunbury Forum Force at Hay Park in the first round while the first home game of the season sees Stirling Lions visit the ECU Arena. ECU coach Salv Todaro will be looking for a quicker start to last season. “I will roll out an old cliché, we will be focusing on one game at time, and we have 22 extremely competitive games judging from the night series results, so we will need to be at the top of our for every game,” said Todaro.

“We had two extremely good games against Bunbury last year and I expect the same this year. As a club we need to make a more positive start to the season than we need last year.”

ECU continues their preparations for the new season with a practise game against Subiaco United on Saturday (6pm) at the ECU Arena. “This weekend’s game gives the players another opportunity to get another competitive game under their belt and most players will get 60-75 minutes. Some players who have had limited game time so far this preseason will be given a full 90 minutes,” explained Todaro.

Local rivals Sorrento will be the team to beat in 2013 after claiming an impressive Grand Final and Cup double last year, and they will open their account against the NTC at Percy Doyle Reserve, while Sunday game in week one see’s  Perth SC hosts last season’s league winners Bayswater City.

Chief Executive Peter Hugg said: “Already we have seen a great start to the year with some amazing matches in the Night Series, and with a number of key changes in coaching staff and clubs finalising their playing squad, it augers well for an exciting season ahead.

“Of course we have implemented the Player Payment System for 2013 and I thank all the clubs and players for their support in assisting with this important piece of work. I am confident that the system will benefit the game greatly and with the proposed National Premier Leagues (WA) being considered for 2014, the structural reform that is needed for our premier competition is underway.

“On behalf of everyone at Football West, I wish all the clubs, their players and fans all the very best for a successful 2013 All Flags State League Season.”
