It’s week two of the Premier League and ECU Joondalup host Stirling Lions at the Edith Cowen University Campus. Both sides are coming off first up victories, the Lions in a hard fought 2-1 win against Cockburn City, while two early goals gave Joondalup a 2-0 win in Bunbury.

Joondalup coach Salv Todora is looking forward to their first home game of the season, and continuing their improvement. “We played well last weekend and we want to continue to embed and improve our structure and grow as team, and become a very consistent team playing an exciting brand of football,” said Todaro.

“I have not had the chance to watch Stirling this year, but with Dough Hesketh as their coach they will be well drill and coming off their win last week they will be full of confidence. As with all the teams this year in the premier league they will be full of very good players and we will need to be mindful of their ability to play good football.” In team news Tommy Amphlett, Matt Italiano and Andy Higgins pulled up sore from the win in Bunbury, but all should be fine, but Dejan Spaseski is in doubt after being taken to hospital with a kidney infection.

Lions’ assistant coach Gary Williams was delighted with the win and is looking forward to the weekend’s game. “I thought we dominated the game in the first half and kept the ball well. The players are now gelling together but Cockburn came back at us in the 2nd half and I felt we sat a little too deep which gave them some encouragement but it’s always nice to start off with 3 points,” said Williams.

“Joondalup is always a tough place to go. They make it very hard for you and up until our win last season our record there was terrible. Our players will take confidence from last week’s result and are really looking forward to the match.” In team news Gareth McGlynn and Moses Kalou, both picked up injuries last week, but should take their place in the side, while Clayton Arnez is still missing.
