Joondalup ready to take on the World

Twelve months of dedication by ECU Joondalup’s under-13 footballers culminates this month with a trip to the Junior World Masters in Warsaw, Poland.

The Joondalup youngsters will represent Australia at the only world football tournament of its kind where they’ll mix it with teams from 20 other nations, including Germany, Brazil and Spain. “I’d like to keep away from the European teams; hopefully we can get USA and Mexico (in the group stage),” coach John Brown said. “We don’t know what the opposition’s like but I think we’ll do all right.”

Joondalup goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer expects to have the pressure on him in Poland. “There’s going to be a lot of pressure especially with the Poland tournament, I just hope I’ll play at the top of my game,” said 12-year old Maynard-BrewerThe Junior World Masters takes place between 30 May and 3 June amidst preparations for the 2012 European Championship.

The side arrived in Warsaw after a 24 hour flight and are the first Australian representatives to take part in the VW World Juniors Masters. The draw took place on Thursday 31st May and they have been drawn in Group A with Russia, Italy, Sweden, Mexico and Kazakhstan.

v Italy – 1/6 – 1.30pm KO

v Mexico – 2/6 – 9.00am KO

v Sweden – 2/6 – 11.00am
