ECU Joondalup will be looking to put off field distractions behind them when they travel to The 6PR Stadium on Saturday to take on Inglewood United in week one of the State League Premier League (3pm)

The two sides met at the same stage last season with ECU coming away with a 2-1 win. Jon Higgins put ECU in front midway through the first half with a stunning free-kick before weathering an Inglewood onslaught after the interval. Substitute Jake Geddes looked to have salvaged a point with an 88th minute equaliser; however, John Thornley soon had Joondalup back in front from the spot. In an extraordinary finish, Inglewood were awarded a penalty of their own in stoppage time but Ndumba Makeche’s attempt was saved too close to goalkeeper Andy Banks.

“It’s been a hectic time at the club in recent weeks, but that’s in the past now. Charlie (Comyn-Platt) and I have worked with the squad this week and we’re really looking forward to the game,” said caretaker Coach Steve Amphlett.

“It would be great to get the same result as last season and we go there full of confidence. Training has been sharp this week and the players just want to go out and perform well for the club, the other business will take care of itself.

“We have added a couple of new signings this week which has added to the competition for place, but as I’ve said the players response to recent happening has been nothing more than fantastic and the new coach will inherit a fantastic group of players.”
