ECU Joondalup entertain the 2011 League Champions Perth Soccer Club at the ECU Arena on Saturday (3pm).

It was an encouraging performance from the side last week, but again they came away with nothing, but Coach Salv Todaro believes they are not far away from a win. “People have been telling me all week it is a classic game of top versus bottom, but I do not see it in the same light. As team we have been improving week by week and we are starting to play a good brand of football, as evidenced by our 2nd half display against the NTC and more specifically against Sorrento last week in the cup,’ said Todaro.

“To say I was disappointed in last week’s result would have to be an understatement, however, I was very pleased with the way the team played, we completely dominated the game and we were able to create some wonderful chances that we were not able to take advantage off.”

The Coach is under no illusions going into the game, and believes Perth is the benchmark in the league, but he is looking forward to the challenge as well as the players. “Saturday’s game will be extremely competitive as Perth has been the benchmark of WA State league for many years, but we welcome the opportunity to play them and I look forward to our boys continuing their improvement and giving Perth a good run for their money,” explained Todaro.

“The character in the team is immense and it is typified by our Captain Dale McCulloch who has been Mr Consistent and the never say die attitudes of Andy Banks, Scott Bushby, Tommy Jones, Fraser McGuire and David Foster and the hardworking ethic of Cameron Burgess, Matty Italiano, Tanner Selyer and Scott Blackmore. These attitudes and the players’ commitment will ensure that we will achieve this year’s goals.”

The core remains much as it has for the past few years for Perth – Shaun Kilkelly, Trent Kay, Greg Sharland, Matt Danskin, Antonio Naglieri, Dom De Felice, Andreas Oliveira and David Onoforo – with additions such as Alex Dunn, Daniel Neiderberger and James Isaia strengthening the pre-season favourites tag.  While the rapid rise of the younger players at the club – Daniel Coletta, Rob Sciascia, Joshua Pereira and Josh Wilkins making an impact this season, prove the strength in the squad.

Perth arrive at The ECU arena having only lost one league game this season, a 3-4 loss at home to Bayswater City, who we beat on the road in round 3. Last time in the league Perth beat Balcatta 3-1 on the road and last week thrashed Western Knights 4-1 in the cup. It should be a classic, get down and support the lads!!
