Match: 1st May 2011 ECU vs Gosnells
6 – 0 Scorers Harry 2, Joel 2, Brody 1, Joe 1
Match Report by Harry Gent
ECU were looking forward to this 3rd round home game and welcomed Gosnells to ECU home ground. Gosnells won the toss and chose to kick off.
It was a very wet pitch and the ball was skimming across the pitch, it was hard to judge the first few touches. ECU were starting to take control of the game and were doing well, a lot of the play was on the left side of the pitch and the Gosnells right back was doing well to keep Jamie and Ronald quiet. Eventually the ball went across the pitch to Joel on the right wing who put in a good cross, the Gosnells defence played a poor header straight to Harry who slotted the ball intot he bottom corner to make it 1-0 to ECU.

The second goal came from some hard work from Joel to get around Gosnells left back and played a low ball to Brody who hit the ball low into the net, 2-0.

Some great work at the back with Bailey, Raymond, Ashwin and Ronald helping us keep the lead with some solid defending. Ecu’s 3rd goal was again some good play from Joel to put the ball across the face of the goal to Joe for a side footed shot intot eh goal, 3-0.
Sven, Jordan and Jamie were working hard in the midfield, a ball played out wide right was picked up by Joel who cut inside with a low shot past the Gosnells keeper to make 4-0

The fifth goal came with a bit of luck with the Gosnells keeper fumbling a shot from Joel that rolled into the net 5-0 to ECU and half time.
The second half was much harder with Gosnells fighting back to try to save some pride, however with continual pressure coming from ECU Jamie had a shot that was fumbled by the keeper and Harry was quick to react with a left foot shot into the net, 6-0 ECU.

Ewen made a great save to keep a clean sheet towards the end of the game. Raymond had a strong solo run from defence laying a good ball into the box which was put just wide by Harry, ECU continued to have some chances with Joel, Jamie, Joe and Harry but the score was to remain 6-0.
A solid performance from all the boys and now with 2 wins and a draw, looking forward to an away trip to East Freo next week.

Sunday 1st May – ECU (U11’s) 7-1 Floreat Athena – Under 12’s North Green (by Nick ford)
After the easter break, both sides were keen to get their season going again. ECU began brightly and created some opportunities, if not many clear cut chances. Their possession paid off when after 15 minutes, Ethan Kerridge returned a Floreat clearance with interest, shooting past the goalkeeper from distance.

Within two minutes, it was 2-0 to the home side when Harley Curran evaded a defender and played a good through ball to Kieran Craig, who coolly finished into the corner for his first goal of the season. It could have been three, soon after, when Oliver Ford played in James Lawless who pushed the ball just the wrong side of the post with the goalkeeper beaten. A half time score of 2-0 was deserved as ECU had played some good football and were rarely threatened by a physically big Floreat team.

Within minutes of the re start, it was 3-0 when Liam Hudson, with great pace, went down the right wing and crossed into the area, where the Floreat goalkeeper dropped the ball at the feet of Kieran, who tapped the ball home. ECU then scored an identical goal when Ethan crossed, the goalkeeper spilt the ball and, again, a grateful Kieran tapped home to complete his hat trick and to make the score 4-0.

Ethan then made it 5-0 with a twice taken penalty. Floreat then had their best spell of the match and after a goalmouth scramble, the visitors scored to make the score 5-1, much to the delight of their enthusiastic and noisy supporters.

It was only a temporary reprieve though, as Luke Rhodes went on a good run and set up James to score with a header from close range. It was soon 7-1 to the home team and a brilliant goal it was as well. Harley went past one defender, flicked the ball over a second and finished superbly past the goalkeeper.

Following on from their good performance in their last game against Balcatta, this was a another good effort by the boys and they should now have the confidence going into their next game against Ellenbrook next Sunday.
