ECU Joondalup  7-0  Sorrento – Sunday 16th June – Premier League

(Photo – Keiron Craig in action)  The old saying of ‘a game of two halves’ was applicable to this battle of the two northern rivals, a goal less first half was followed by a goal frenzy by the hosts. As with previous games, the home  side started slowly and failed to find any rhythm or create any clear cut chances. Sorrento looked dangerous on the break a couple of times but the 0-0 score line was about right, ECU just lifting their game before the break with some decent possession at last.

Half Time – ECU Joondalup  0-0  Sorrento

ECU started the second half well, keeping possession and looking like a completely different team and they were ahead within a few minutes, after a good run by Kieron Craig set up Tom Eijgenhuijsen for a neat finish.

It was soon 2-0, another good cross by Kieron C was headed into the corner by Oliver Ford and a third followed when Harley Curran finished neatly from a great pass from Tom E. It was one way traffic, ECU playing their best football for some weeks and it soon became 4-0, after a scramble in the visitors area, Liam Owen forced the ball home.

Moments later Ethan Kerridge went on a rampaging run and finished with his right foot and Harley C then controlled the ball on his chest and turned to volley home a glorious sixth. Brad Jordan then produced a good cross for Harley C to complete his hat trick to make it 7-0.

The visitors were shell shocked and for the hosts, a good confidence build for some big games on the horizon against Perth and Fremantle. Firstly, though, it’s Cockburn away on 23/6 to complete the first half of the season.
