ECU Joondalup  0-1  Perth – Saturday 3rd August – Cup Semi Final

The top two teams in the premier league met in the cup semi final and it was the visitors who advanced to the final. Perth started the brighter, were better in possession and created some early chances, ECU keeper, Ed Cook, rushing off his line and saving at the feet of a Perth forward. Gradually, ECU found some rhythm and started to create some openings themselves. Harley Curran and Luke Salmon both had long shots saves and both wingers, Declan and Liam Hudson had good crosses which went straight across the visitors penalty area. The home side finished the stronger but the 0-0 score line was a fair reflection of a nervous half by both teams.

Half Time – ECU Joondalup  0-0  Perth

Perth had the lions share of the possession at the start of the second period but didn’t really create any chances but they took the lead on 10 minutes with their first real effort on goal. A clever pass on the edge of the area was finished in style by the Perth forward although he did look marginally offside. ECU could not get into the game, the visitors visibly lifted, the only pressure applied by the hosts came in the last 5 minutes. Tom E had a header saved and Liam H had a header cleared off the line but the pressure came too late and Perth hung on to advance to the final where they will face Rockingham.

Full Time – ECU Joondalup  0-1  Perth

In the end, Perth deserved their victory as they were more comfortable in possession and were on top for large periods of the second half. It was tough on ECU though, this being the second successive year they have lost in the cup semi final.
