ECU Joondalup  2-2  Whitford City – Sunday 26th May – Premier League

Photo – Declan Hudson in action – Having laboured against lower opposition the week before, ECU under 13’s continued their struggles and, despite a good come back, they only picked up a point from a match they were expected to win.

The visitors had a game plan they and set themselves up very well defensively and frustrated the home side on numerous occasions. It was a poor first half from the home team, and Whitfords found themselves ahead at the break. The first goal coming from a corner, the second from another cross where the Whitfords player was left unchallenged both times to make it 0-2. Tom Eijgenhuijsen pulled a goal back just before the break and ECU were suddenly back in the game.

The home team came out after the break with a bit more spirit and belief and spent virtually the whole of the next 30 minutes trying to break down a maroon wall that was the away defence. To be fair, the visitors kept their shape really well and defended brilliantly and despite the fact that ECU had all the possession, they did not create that many clear cut chances.

It seemed like it was going to be one of those days, when with 8 minutes remaining, for once the away team could not clear a corner and Harley Curran fired home the equaliser, much to everyone’s relief and the game ended 2-2.

After two disappointing displays, ECU next visit Rockingham City which is a first for this team as they have never had to play them away before.
