Perth  2-3  ECU Joondalup – Premier League – Sunday 30th June

(Photo – Keeper Edward Cook in action) Up until this game, league leaders Perth had not dropped a point this season, the visitors only losing one game this year, an opening day defeat, 0-1 to Perth. This turned out to be an entertaining, tense and feisty affair, both good footballing teams, desperate to win. The hosts started the brighter, pegging ECU back but not really creating much but they were ahead on 10 minutes, a shot drifted over ECU goalkeeper, Ed Cook, only to hit the post and rebound back into the goal off the unlucky keeper. Back came the visitors, Kieron Craig turning and shooting wide and then the equaliser, a corner was allowed to go across the penalty area where at the far post, Liam Hudson scored from close range. ECU visibly raised their game and finished the half the stronger but the 1-1 score line was a fair reflection of play.

The visitors continued to play the better football, Perth looking increasingly frustrated, which translated into a couple of nasty tackles. This seemed to only fire up the visitors and they were ahead shortly after when Ethan Kerridge played a long through ball which Luke Salmon finished in style with a great strike over the Perth keeper. It could have been three when Tom E hit the post and it was 3-1 within a minute, a corner rebounding to Liam H, who drilled in the third. ECU were comfortable but gave away a gift of a goal to Perth and suddenly it was 2-3 with 7 minutes remaining. The hosts though didn’t really create any chances and ECU ended the league leaders run with a deserved victory.

A great result for the boys, it got very feisty in the second half, and the hosts were fortunate to finish with 11 on the pitch but both sides are talented and were fired up to win, so some of the challenges were maybe understandable.
