Bunbury v ECU 12’s

The time had come to hit the road and head down south for the fourth round match against Bunbury. Both teams had started the season well and the boys were expecting a good match. The game was a tale of two halves with ECU ultimately overpowering a spirited Bunbury team.

The game followed a similar pattern to last week. The first half was a battle through the midfield with no team being able to find any rhythm. All teams need good foundations and the 12s are lucky to have such a great defence. Evan was superb in the first half stopping everything that Bunbury could throw at him. Ciaran has the first chance of the game when he breaks through and has his shot saved. The Bunbury defence was tested by Dylan, Jason and Ben who all made good attacking runs early in the game. Ben gets past a defender and gets the ball over to Dylan who has his shot saved.

Morgan puts in a couple of great tackles in the midfield and you can see the Bunbury team starting to feel the pace of the game. Trent beats a player and shoots wide. With the clock running down in the first half both teams wanted to get a goal. The closest chance came when Jason made a run down the left and looked to find Ciaran with his cross but the ball narrowly missed.

The second half would be all ECU with Bunbury only getting forward once. Frazer gets the ball to Ollie who has his low shot saved by the keeper. Morgan wins the ball and Ollie again gets the ball. He crosses but the ball is long. Dylan retrieves the ball on the left and his cross is headed over by Frazer. Bunbury area trying to up the tempo but Morgan and Trent stop them getting any control of the game. Dylan wins a corner after a good run down the left. From the corner Josh attacks the ball but heads over.

The pressure is showing on the Bunbury team with Dylan making some good runs. The back four are playing in the Bunbury half and there is no way out for them. Trent wins a corner on the right. He puts the ball into the 6 yard box and this time Josh times his run well and gets the ball in 1-0. The boys celebrate the goal knowing it will be hard for Bunbury to come back. Kody is called into action after a long clearance from the Bunbury keeper is chased. He dives on the ball to stop any Bunbury players having a chance.

Trent runs into the box and is brought down. The referee points straight to the spot and this can seal the game. He hits the bar so it’s still 1-0. Another corner puts the Bunbury team in all sorts of trouble. The ball is in the back of the net but it’s deemed off side. That’s it, the referee calls it time and it’s now four games unbeaten for the 12s.
