ECU 9’s vs Subiaco U10’s Green League. Written by Stuart Montgomery

Well after only a few games of the season starting in Orange league the boys have proved themselves that they are a good little side by beating teams quite easily and have now been promoted to the Green League, Well done boys and lets continue to learn and develop and have a great rest of the season.

With mascot Marlin (Right), a 7 month old Australian Bulldog, and ECU’s number 1 fan and is at every game watching, the boys first game in Green league put us against Subiaco and we knew it would be a little step up for the lads but the coaches, Banksy, Monty and Neil all had confidence the boys would make that step up after a good week of training.

As the boys lined up they welcomed Aston and Braydon back from Holidays but were missing Aiki who was away. So we had no recording of the game to help out the reporter ha.

The boys started well on a great day for football and we found the pitch to be very wide which we thought would suit our style of play.

The boys knocked the ball around well in the first 5 minutes of play but couldn’t get the 1st goal. That went to Subiaco who was lucky to score after a big high deflection found its way over Aston in goal for a 1-0 lead to Subiaco.

Didn’t take long for ECU to take control of the game and started creating chances with slick passing and quick movement that Subiaco couldn’t cope with.

The 1st goal came courtesy of Sam who finished a great move which the ball was won by Shade at the back and he calmly played it to Danny who played the ball wide to Mathew who crossed to Sam who had the easy task of finding the net. 1-1 .

ECU 2nd goal was courtesy of Sam as well as a good through ball from Ethan found Sam one on one with the keeper and Sam slid the ball into the bottom corner to give ECU a 2-1 lead.

The 3rd goal came from Seb who had only just come on the park. Paddy won a tackle and played the ball to Ryan who then crossed to Seb who took a touch and rolled the ball into the goal. 3-1 ECU

A corner led to ECU 4th goal as Mathew and shade played a short corner together which lead to Mathew playing the ball into Danny and from about meters out Danny curled a magnificent finish past the keeper. 4-1 ECU

Braydon and Ryan were working hard for the team and this lead to the 5th goal as the ball was played down the left and Braydon centred for Seb to claim his second of the game with a simple tap in, and that was closely followed by Danny’s 2nd for the game when he recived the ball from paddy in the centre of the pitch and stroked the ball high into the goal. So It was 6-1 at half time.

The second half saw the boys play well and create plenty of chances but we just lacked the final finish. But we did see probably the best goal of the game by Sam who unleashed a powerful shot from a long way out and nearly break the net to claim his hattrick. 7-1

Seb also got his hat trick as his hard running and strong presence gave him the chance to score a good team goal. The ball was played out the back by paddy to Ethan in the midfield who played it wide to Aston who beat a man and crossed to the near post where Seb used his strength to hold off his opponent and slide the ball under the keeper. 8-1

Ryan got his name on the score sheet when Braydon made a good save in goals and rolled the ball out to Eddie who played a lovely ball up the line to Ryan who skipped past his defender and his shot at goal was low and hard into the far bottom corner (just what we had been working on at training on Friday) 9-1

The last goal of the game was on own goal and that gave the boys a deserved 10-1 win in their first competitive game in the Green league.

Well done boys. Keep up the hard work and it is good to see the boys are taking what we are doing in training out on the pitch. We worked on shooting last week and Seb Sam Danny and Ryan all got on the score sheet.

Next week sees us play Perth at home.
