ECU U9’s v PERTH SC – U10’s GREEN LEAGUE (report by Neil Douglas)

Well it was the boys 2nd game in the green league and it was a tough affair. Banksy and Monty went through the warms ups and the boys sat down for their final instructions about tactics and team shape, Banksy commented that he thought that I needed to work on my shape and that is something I will need to look into……………

The opening 5 mins was all ECU with Brayden heavily involved down the left and he was combining well with Seb, Ethan and Eddie. The first chance fell to Aiki who struck a good shot just over the bar. Aiki was involved again with a great pass to Sebby who ran on to the through ball but couldn’t convert.

Sammy was busy down the right and was unlucky to see his shot rebound off the post and bounce to safety. With the defence marshalled by the ice cool Shade we fought hard to keep Perth at bay, the game was scrappy at times and I think that was down to them, they seemed to swarm round the ball and when we had the ball our ball players were surrounded by 2 or 3 players.

Ryan, Aston and Matt were introduced and they were involved in the wide areas as we tried to gain control. It was an own goal after 18 mins which finally settled us down and Danny was called into action to make a couple of saves as Perth pushed for an equaliser. Ethan then broke from his own half to curl a worldy into the top corner to give us a nice little cushion and then Sam made it 3 before half time.

Banksy and Monty gave the boys a few pointers for the second half and off we went. Again, we weren’t quite at our best and Perth were making life difficult for us.  Great combination play by Paddy, Aston, Matt and Seb down the right saw Danny run on to a through ball and cooly slot home to make it 4 – 0.

Perth were still testing Aiki in goal and he did very well to make a couple of good saves, however Perth kept coming and nicked a couple of consolation goals late on to make the final score ECU 4 – PERTH SC 2. Not the best performance of the season but a battling one and the boys worked hard for each other too which was pleasing. Our usual slick passing game wasn’t quite 100% but we got the win.

Well done fellas!!!
