Sunday 27th May – Ellenbrook  3-4  ECU
To begin with, you will have to excuse the scarcity of this report but I was not supposed to be writing it so it’s from memory a few days later, but what a game. As the under 9’s are the only side this year to play up, they are used to playing against bigger and stronger boys but when they turned up last Sunday to take on Ellenbrook, it looked like they were playing an under 13’s team such was the physical size of the opposition. ECU started in confident fashion though and were clearly the better footballing side and raced into a 2-0 lead through a great strike by Daniel Faichney and a ‘Gary Lineker’ type finish from Harry Fletcher, someone please explain to Harry who Gary Lineker is.

Ellenbrook grabbed a goal back against the run of play but Reece Corrigan restored the two goal margin with a good finish.

Half Time – Ellenbrook  1-3  ECU

Not sure what the home coach said to his team at half time but is was probably along the lines of ‘these kids are younger, smaller and better than you so just kick lumps out of them in the second half please’. His players responded and were very physical with the home ref letting most of the challenges go. Ellenbrook pulled two goals back to make the game 3-3 and were looking for the winner and the ECU defence were under increasing pressure, the defence of Euan Blair, Ben Ford and Matthew Dench were magnificent repelling the tide of giants coming at them whilst the boys still created chances on the break. With just a couple of minutes left, ECU had a corner on the left, the home defence could not clear their lines and Lewis Edwards smashed home the winner much to his and his team mates delight.

A great win by the boys who stood up under immense intimidation and battled until the whistle for a deserved victory.
