Under 12’s to good for League Leaders

Westside  1-5  ECU – Sunday 22nd July
Having had a two week break from the league, ECU’s under 12’s were just too good for premier league leaders, Westside at MacNaughton Park. Both sides were up for this local derby and the first half was very tight with no clear cut chances created by either team. ECU played the better football but failed to convert to chances while the home side only threatened on the break a couple of times. The goaless first half was fair reflection of the play so far.

Half Time – Westside  0-0  ECU

The second half started in the same manner but with ECU now looking more dangerous. The first goal was always going to be important and it went to the away team when Oliver Ford gained possession in midfield and released James Lawless who finished calmly and emphatically. ECU were visibly lifted and after a fine run down the left flank by full back Lewis Robinson, Liam Hudson finished from close range to make it 2-0. ECU’s play was now on another level, they had confidence and played some superb football, all this against the league leaders.

Harley Curran then fed James with a good pass and James’s finish was superb into the top corner to make it 3-0. Within minutes it was four, another great run down the left by Lewis ended with Kieron Craig’s great finish over the goalkeeper. ECU were now creating chances at will whilst remaining disciplined with their overall shape and balance. It was soon 5-0, from James’s cross, Kieron scored his second from close range. Westside gained a consolation goal late on with a good long range shot which Ed Cook could do little about.

Full Time – Westside  1-5  ECU

Not only was this a great result, but the second half performance was easily the best of the season so far and one of the best for some time. All the players contributed, they played as a team and played confident football and showed what they are capable of. Their effort and determination to win the game was outstanding. Well done boys, a magnificent effort.
