Under 12’s Secure Another Three Points

Sunday 5th August – Cockburn  1-4  ECU
ECU under 12’s secured all three points against Cockburn at Beale Park with an unconvincing performance. The home side started much the brighter and hit the post after two minutes when they should have scored, their positive start being rewarded with the opening goal soon after when they caught ECU on the break, something Cockburn threatened many times in the first half. It took ECU a while to settle and they managed to equalise when Harley Curran played a good through ball to Luke Salmon, his shot was parried by the goalkeeper out to Kieron Craig on the wing and he finished superbly from an acute angle. Soon after it was 2-1 to the away team, Ethan Kerridge broke up a Cockburn attack and played a superb through ball to Luke, who finished calmly. Bradley Jordan then went close having a good shot saved by the home keeper.

Half Time – Cockburn  1-2  ECU

The second half, ECU had a much better shape about them and controlled more of the game although Cockburn still looked dangerous on the break. Kieron had a shot saved after a fine run by Declan Hudson, Declan was then denied by a desperate last ditch tackle after a good pass from Oliver Ford. Declan was injured in the process and, unfortunately, played no further part in the game. ECU were now enjoying their best period of sustained pressure and they increased their lead when Tom Eijgenhuijsen and Harley played a fine 1,2 on the edge of the area and Tom finished very well for his first goal of the season and the teams third. With five minutes remaining, Luke challenged a defender on the left wing, shown tremendous persistence and eventually crossed for James Lawless to head home number four.

Full Time – Cockburn  1-4  ECU

This win now lifts ECU into third place in the premier division but the league will be forgotten for two weeks now as the under 12’s prepare to take on pace setters Sorrento in the cup semi final on Sunday 12th August at Percy Doyle reserve, KO 9.00am.
