Sunday 29th July – ECU  4-1  Balcatta
ECU under 12’s continued their rise up the premier league ladder with a comfortable win against Balcatta, their 7th win in 9 matches since their promotion to the top division. The first half was mostly spent in the Balcatta half with the away team occasionally threatening on the break but the home side were in control and played some lovely football at times. Good runs down the wing by twins Liam and Declan Hudson caused Balcatta some early scares whilst James Lawless went close after a fine run and shot. From a James lay off, Oliver Ford drove a shot fractionally over the bar and the pressure was beginning to mount when the home side went in front. A good run down the flank and a driven cross by Lewis Robinson was controlled by Oliver and despatched into the corner with his left foot.

It was soon 2-0 when Declan went on another run and found James in the area, his header into the roof of the net gave the Balcatta keeper no chance. James then hit the bar with another header from close range, Balcatta eventually scrambling the ball clear, and the 2-0 half time score was the least ECU deserved.

Half Time – ECU  2-0  Balcatta

Soon after the restart the score was 3-0 when Oliver controlled a clearance on the edge of Balcatta’s area, dribbled past a couple of players, dribbled past a couple more (Ricky Villa style, 1982 cup final) and coolly side footed the ball past the goalkeeper for his second of the match. Tom Eijgenhuijsen shot just wide, other chances went begging but finally it was 4-0 when Luke Salmon (in picture) poked home a rebound after a Kieron Craig shot had been parried. Almost immediately the home team failed to clear the ball and a Balcatta player volleyed in to reduce the score to 4-1 for the home team and there was still time for a good save by the away keeper from Kieron after a great team move by ECU.

Full Time – ECU  4-1  Balcatta

Another good result for the boys, they played some good football and their finishing was of the highest quality. Next week the boys are away to Cockburn (5/8) before they have two games back to back against high flyers Sorrento, the first in the cup semi final (12/8) and the second in the league (19/8), both are away.
