Sunday 16th September – ECU  5-0  Sorrento

ECU under 12’s finished off their season in style with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Sorrento. The visitors had won every premier league game until a few weeks ago when ECU went to Sorrento and managed a 2-1 away win and they backed it up with this impressive performance. The home team were quick to settle and played some lovely football in the first half and were ahead after 5 minutes when Declan Hudson went on a run and crossed from the left wing, causing confusion in the away defence, the ball eventually coming back to Declan who slotted the ball home from an acute angle. Moments later Tom Eijgenhuijsen played in Declan again, and he finished to make the score 2-0. ECU created a number of chances and Kieron Craig was unlucky with a couple of efforts. Just before half time the home side had a wakeup call when Sorrento broke and hit the bar from long range.

Half Time – ECU  2-0  Sorrento

Within 5 minutes of the restart, it was 3-0, Liam Hudson run and superb cross was met by his twin brother Declan to head home at the far post for his hat trick. With the game seemingly in the bag, the home team lost a bit of shape and the next 15 minutes were scrappy from both sides. Sorrento had a couple of long range efforts which were dealt with well by keeper Ed Cook but neither side really threatened to extend the scoring. With 5 minutes remaining, a long through ball caused confusion between the away defence and goalkeeper with the ball falling to Tom on the edge of the area, he calmly lobbed the ball back over the Sorrento players and into the net to cap off a very good individual display. Almost immediately it was 5-0, Tom’s cross from the left was met emphatically by Liam H to round off a good around team effort.

Full Time – ECU  5-0  Sorrento

This result meant that the under 12’s finished in second place in the premier league just 4 points behind Perth who played 4 games more, a great effort. It also means that ECU now play Inglewood in the semi-finals of the top 4 play offs next weekend, Sunday 30th September, 9.40am KO at Macedonia Park, Stirling FC. Come down and cheer on the boys.
