Sunday 19th August – Sorrento 1-2 ECU

ECU under 12’s bounced back from their disappointing semi final result last weekend against the same opponents with an impressive 2-1 victory at Percy Doyle Reserve, handing Sorrento their first premier loss of the season in the process. As with the cup game the week before, ECU started the stronger and looked confident, twice Kieron Craig found himself in good positions and hit the side netting on both occasions. ECU’s shape and balance gave them most of the possession and a stranglehold on the game but clear cut chances were still few and far between. After 15 mins, the away took the lead when a good move through the midfield ended with Harley Curran firing in a low cross which Kieron met on the volley and despatched into the corner. ECU had to deal with a couple of Sorrento corners and the occasional break but were generally in control of the game.

Half Time – Sorrento  0-1  ECU

ECU started the second half well but gave possession away from one of their own throw ins at the other end of the pitch, Sorrento broke, had a shot blocked but the rebound was despatched into the roof of the net to make the score 1-1. ECU responded well though, immediately creating chances to go ahead. Twice Declan Hudson broke down the right wing and sent over good crosses, the first Luke Salmon shot wide, the second James Lawless put over the bar. Luke then fired wide from a good position and Tom Eijgenhuizsen had a shot saved well and it was the away team looking for the winner. It came with 5 minutes left, Luke was fouled in the area and Harley stepped up to fire low into the corner. ECU had to withstand a Sorrento corner but comfortably saw out the rest of the match for a deserved victory.

Full Time – Sorrento  1-2  ECU

A great win against a good side should give the boys a boost for the run in and will help in their efforts to secure a top four place in the play offs. The boys visit mid table Balcatta next Sunday (26th August).
