ECU UNDER 9s – MADNESS IN THE METROPOLIS

Perth Under 10s 0 – 12 ECU Under 9s

The Under 9s headed south to Mount Lawley for an encounter with Perth City’s representatives in the Under 10s Green League. The pitch was heavy following a deluge the previous day although this did not distract ECU from the task in hand. Almost no sooner than kick off ,there were raids down both left and right flanks. Massimo fired over a looping cross which was headed down by Daniel to Reece who smashed the ball into the top left corner 0-1. Great finish Reece.

Excellent combinations down the right flank followed between Reece, Blair and Massimo. Soon after that Regan crossed, the Perth defence cleared, but the ball was immediately returned by Euan into the path of Massimo who put Daniel through to score 0-2. Massimo and Reece then combined to create a chance, which Daniel smashed against the post.

Shortly afterwards Massimo fired an unstoppable shot to make the score 0-3.

The lads were really starting to dominate the play now and the passing and movement together with the closing down of the opposition defenders were excellent.

Massimo then blasted in his second for 0-4,giving the goalkeeper no chance.

On occasion the ECU defenders would step forward and Ben made a great interception to set up another attack. Excellent technical skills from Reece then set up Regan to bury the ball into the bottom right corner 0-5. Another sweeping move down the left followed resulting in a corner. Daniel took it and the ball took a slight deflection past the goalkeeper into the net. Needless to say Daniel made it clear that he was claiming that one, so no need this time for the dubious goals panel 0-6.

The ECU attacks were now relentless. Massimo made a great tackle to dispossess a Perth defender and rifled the ball into the bottom corner. 0-7. HAT-TRICK TO MASSIMO.

Daniel then closed down an opposition defender, took the ball and smashed the ball into the top corner 0-8. HAT-TRICK TO DANIEL.

Then a moment to savour. Ben stepped imperiously out of defence. Daniel saw him and put an excellent pass into Ben’s path and he drilled it into the bottom corner, a fine finish from Ben 0-9.

The defenders have not had much of a mention but had been composed and in total control so well played Joe, Euan, Matthew and Ben. Anyway the first half action was not over yet. Blair put in an excellent tackle to win the ball and finished to make it 0-10. Good goal Blair. A fine cross from Blair was then headed into his own net by a Perth defender 0-11. There was still time for Blair and Massimo to combine and Massimo then unluckily hit the post. Pause for breath.

HALF TIME: 0-11

This was the archetypal game of 2 halves. The Perth players must have been shell-shocked at half time but their coach set to work in the interval, reorganising the team and lifting their spirits. They moved more players into defensive positions and set their stall out to frustrate ECU in the second half. There were several chances in the second half for most of the attacking players including Reece, Daniel, Blair, Massimo and a couple of good efforts just wide from Lewis. The pressure finally paid off and good closing down resulted in Blair cutting out a goal kick and drilling it into the bottom corner 0-12. Credit to Perth. They defended heroically until the final whistle and put up a good challenge in the second half.

FULL TIME: 0-12

Another great performance from the lads and the Under 9s now look ahead to a home game with Sorrento next Sunday. It should be noted that the Under 9s have played 9 and won 9, with an astronomical goal difference and been promoted after only 6 games of the season. However they continue to sweep aside all opposition put before them. Make no mistake these boys are talented and have a fierce will to win. Rumours are now suggesting a possible future “friendly” encounter between the ECU Under 9s and the ECU Under 10s. What a mouth watering prospect that would be. Is it possible ? The crowd would pay big money to watch that one.
