ECU under 9’s V’s Quinns under 10’s

Having been moved up to our new division and knowing Quinns were a strong side, we knew this could be our toughest match of the season so far. With the wind and rain to battle against as well as the sheer size of the Quinns team, the boys had a fight on their hands.

Within minutes of the game starting, ECU were already looking strong with Reece having an on target shot saved by a very capable looking Quinns keeper, who was kept busy by further shots by Lewis and Daniel. Some great technical work by Daniel followed, allowing Reece to make a further shot, just hitting the post. A further shot by Daniel saved by the Quinns keeper and we already knew our previous concerns were unfounded. Our defence of Ben, Matthew and Joe stayed strong. The end of the 2nd half saw a great pass from Massimo to Lewis, allowing Lewis to shoot on target and deflect off Daniel’s back, for our first goal. This was followed by the keeper having to work hard to clear shots from Joe and Ben.

ECU 1 – 0 Quinns at Half Time

The 2nd half kicked off with Regan replacing Euan in goal and saw just as much action as the boys continued to battle with the weather. Great shots by Massimo, Blair and Daniel kept the Quinns keeper busy again. Quinns had a few opportunities in this half which allowed our defence force of Ben, Euan, Joe and Matthew to show their skills and forcing Regan to pull off a few saves. With the game still 1-0 and Quinns starting to look strong, the boys fight was more apparent than ever and found Lewis and Reece pushing the ball forward with a great partnership to allow Daniel to score again. Next, A goal kick by the Quinns keeper followed up swiftly by Matthew allowed him to pop it straight back in the net, making the score 3-0. Within a minute, and our boys looking tired, Quinns broke away and scored their first goal of the match.

When the final whistle went, the boys had thoroughly earned their 3-1 win! Well done boys!
