Quinns 2 ECU 11’s 1 – April 29th

ECU looks to continue their great start to the season last week with a home game against Quinn’s. The dark clouds were appearing on the horizon as the boys ran through the warm up. It was a tense game with ECU unable to find any rhythm.

Ben showed his skills beating defenders on the left wing to win a corner early on. The first half highlight was a superb goal by Charlie. His strike from 15 yards gave the keeper no chance 1-0. ECU had lots of chances to add to the score with close efforts by Ciaran, Trent, Ben and Charlie.

Dylan was able to open up the defence with a number of great passes.   At the back the boys were kept busy and as usual great performances by Josh, Evan and Ciaran stopped any threat from Quinn’s. Jack was also busy helping out the back three and feeding the ball to Dylan.

Quinn’s start the second half and ECU go straight into attack with Ollie forcing a corner on the right. ECU improved their passing game in the second half and had a number of opportunities to score. Ciaran, Trent and Dylan going close. As the back three pushed forward to support the waves of attacks Quinn’s snatch an equalizer with a quick break 1-1.

Morgan was back in the middle and put 110% into every 50/50 ball. He had a nasty fall but carried on winning the ball in midfield. Reid cleared the ball a number of times throughout the game and continued his solid performance in the second half.

The boys kept pushing for more goals and again were caught on the break 2-1. With the rain coming down and only a couple of minutes left Evan and Josh both almost levelled with shots from 15 yards out. The boys tried to get the passing going all game but Quinn’s fought for every ball and made it tough.

Special mention goes to Morgan who played through the second half with his arm injured and never gave up. We all hope he doesn’t miss to much football.
