ECU 11s battle for a draw at Perth

ECU Joondalup 11′s 1 Perth Soccer Club 1

The boys were involved in a very physical game against Perth. They fought out a 1-1 draw with a great defensive display and controlled long periods of the game. A bit of luck would have seen the ball hit the back of the net but the woodwork would deny Ciaran twice.

The first half was end to end football with the first effort by Dylan over the bar. The boys played possession football and as last week it was a fantastic team effort. Morgan set the tone with pin point passes setting Trent, Dylan, Ciaran and Ben free. Chances were rare and Ciaran came closest when he combined well with Dylan and Morgan only to see his shot hit the post.

The defence laid a solid platform allowing the midfield and attack to push forward. Evan, Josh and Kian were excellcent in repelling all of Perth’s attacks. Dylan and Ben both shoot over and the half is almost over. Perth make a break and Reid makes a great save to keep the score 0-0.

The second half starts well for ECU with Ollie winning an early corner. Dylan shoots from 10 yards but is just wide. Perth get a goal when the ball finds its way through the defence and with Reid unsighted it’s 1-0 to the home team.

Perth speed up the pace of the game and the back three are busy keeping the deficit to just one. After Josh wins the ball and finds Ciaran the break is on and a great through ball finds Charlie who can’t quite reach the ball before the keeper. Ollie makes another run down the right and wins a corner. ECU keep the pressure on Perth with Josh passing to Dylan who shoots wide.

Ciaran beats a defender and puts the ball in to make it 1-1. Great goal. The game is there for the taking and the boys push forward at every opportunity. Dylan, Ollie, Ciaran, Charlie and Trent all have half chances but it stays at 1-1. Jack, Evan, Ben and Josh all make important tackles and keep Perth out.

Again it was a great team performance with the boys putting into practice the skills they are learning. The Perth team were stronger physically  but the boys are learning that moving the ball around is the best weapon. Well done 11s.
