ECU Joondalup FC Versus Balcatta FC

The morning started with the news that Harry Blunt was unavailable for selection through injury, putting the pressure on the coach in deciding which formation he would choose to foil an improving Balcatta side.

ECU started off the game in their usual high tempo pressuring the Balcatta defence almost immediately. On 3 min ECU were unlucky not to take a quick lead as Wes Casimir Brown attempted to chip the Balcatta keeper from distance, just clipping the top of the bar! The pressure intensified on the Balcatta goal with Nathan Rhodes smashing a shot just wide of the Balcatta goal. Aaron Louttit also was relentless in his efforts in providing ECU with an early goal, smashing a shot with his left foot over the bar. This was a warning sign for Balcatta as Nathan Rhodes scored cracker on five minutes. 1-0 ECU.

The football wasn’t completely one way and Balcatta hit back on the break, nearly out whiting stand in keeper Jason Petrie (and his new ginger fringe) on a couple of occasions. There was great combination play by ECU with Nathan, Harry and Joe playing one two’s around Balcatta, creating shooting chances for the whole team almost at will. Nathan Rhodes on a number of occasion’s was unstoppable smashing shots at goal but repeatedly being foiled by the crossbar. It was a curling corner form Nathan which met the boot of Luke Davies smashing in goal number 2 on 15 min. Luke Davis was running riot down the left now and on 24 min and with some great link up play with Arron Louttit, Luke smashed in another goal. 3 -0 ECU

The question at half time was how come the score was only 2-0. ECU were playing like Spain controlling the ball, controlling procession and passing and moving; nearly every player seemed to have had a touch of the ball before each ECU goal attempt. Surely there the second half would bring more goals? The second half started as lively as the first with Harry Moses delivering a fine cross into the box with Joe Hobson demonstrating his acrobatic ability attempting a Wayne Rooney overhead kick. Arron Hinshelwoo was never to far away from the action and went on a blinding run from his own half drilling in another great ECU shot at goal.

Another goal was surely to arrive soon? And it did with some fantastic link up play and passing between Dayan Bhudia, Harry Moses and Jason Petrie resulting in Dayan scoring goal number 4 for ECU. Even though the pressure was mounting on Balcatta they didn’t fold and on a number of occasions were dangerous on the break. This was very ironic as ECU’s next goal came from a long ball being played over the top of the Balcatta defence leaving Joe Hobson to weave his way past three defenders then tapping in goal number 5 for ECU. Harry Moses and Luke Davies continued to play one twos around the Balcatta midfield, who were now lucking like a exhausted England team continually chasing the ball, having very little possession. Full time was quickly approaching, but ECU weren’t finished a great ball was passed to Joe Hobsons feet and with his back to goal he turned his defender and placed in goal number 6.

ECU 6 (Luke Davis 3, Dayan Bhudia 1, Joe Hobson 2) Balcatta 0
