Round 3 – ECU Joondalup U9’s 7 v 1 Subiaco AFC (By Stu Gilsenan)

The Under 9’s early season form continued to flourish as they made light work of a competitive Subiaco AFC team in round 3 of the Optus Small Sided Football Under 10 North Blue league.

A 7-1 demolition, which included a hat trick from Dylan Leonard, ensured the youngsters kept up the pressure on the leagues high flyers. ECU were on the ascendancy as early as the third minute, as Joe Hobson benefited from some good work from Leonard and scored with a tap in from short range. Dayan Bhudia proved to be a thorn in the Subiaco side for the whole game, and it was his run and cross from wide right which found Leonard who, with still a lot to do, turned and unleashed a shot to make it two nil in the fifth minute. Things went from bad to worse for Subiaco as Nathan Rhodes received the ball on the edge of the penalty area and hit a thunderous shot into the top left hand corner of the goal, giving the Subiaco ‘keeper no chance.

The start of the second half saw Subiaco create their first real chance of the game and could have easily reduced the deficit had it not been for the woodwork, with number ten seeing his shot crash back off the bar before ECU cleared their lines. The respite was short lived, Harry Blunt receiving the ball deep in his own half before finding Wesley Casimir-Brown in space on the right, he in turn cut inside two defenders before crossing the ball for Leonard to notch his second with a tap in.  Not to be outdone, Casimir-Brown himself made it five nil after thirty five minutes, benefiting from some slack defending , as he pounced on a poor clearance before drilling the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

Rhodes was again on the score sheet to grab his second and the teams sixth of the game, slotting home following a goal mouth scramble. Leonard completed the rout on forty two minutes before Subiaco grabbed a late consolation, breaching what was otherwise a rock solid defence marshalled by Matthew MClaughlin, Ben Ford and Aaron Louttit.
