Perth  1-3  ECU – Sunday 7th August

Second placed ECU under 11’s secured the points after a solid performance against third placed Perth with some great finishing. ECU were ahead after just two minutes when Kieran Craig crossed brilliantly from the right, Oliver Ford’s challenge on the goalkeeper and a defender caused the ball the drop to Harley Curran, who confidently scored from close range. ECU had plenty of the ball in the early stages without creating too many chances.

On 17 minutes, they increased their lead to 2-0. An ECU corner was cleared to the edge of the penalty box to Brad Jordan who struck the ball superbly on the half volley and, even though the goalkeeper got a touch on the ball, there was too much power in the shot and it sailed into the corner. Apart from a few breaks, Perth never really threatened the away goal seriously and it was ECU who were playing most of the football.

It could have been 3-0 just shortly before half time, when Harley met an Ethan Kerridge free kick with a superb header only to see it rebound off the cross bar with the home goalkeeper soundly beaten. The half time score of 2-0 was fully deserved for a good performance against a good side.

Half Time    Perth  0-2  ECU

I’m not sure what the Perth coach said at the break but Perth came out a different side in the second half and were back in the game within two minutes of the restart. It was a scrappy affair, ECU had a few chances to clear the ball but when it fell to a Perth forward, he toe poked the ball passed Kyle McDonald in the ECU goal. A few minutes later the home team hit a post from a cross and suddenly, ECU were under pressure.

At the other end, Liam Hudson struck the ball just wide off the post after a good run down the right wing. Within three minutes, a similar run by Liam got him into a similar position, after a great through ball by Harley, this time, Liam’s powerful cross shot was brilliantly struck and went in off the inside of the post to make the score 3-1.

Ben Bates then had a half chance after a good run and at the other end, Kyle made a good save from a Perth forward. The away team then, with the help of some desperate defending, had to survive a huge scramble to stop the home team from scoring. The Perth left winger shot powerfully, Kyle managed to palm the ball onto the cross bar, it rebounded to a Perth player who forced the ball towards goal, where Oliver, standing on the line, headed the ball back against the cross bar, the rebound this time was scrambled away for a corner to Perth, which came to nothing.

Having survived that late scare, ECU comfortably played out the remainder of the game to secure a very good three points.

Full Time    Perth  1-3  ECU

With only three games remaining this season, a top two spot has almost been secured, a deserved position for a team who have been consistent with their level of football this season.
