Six Of the Best For The Under 11’s

Sunday 19th June – ECU  6-0  UWA Nedlands

Following last week’s late win over Woodvale, the under 11’s were looking forward to playing a lowly UWA Nedlands team at home. The home team got off to the a perfect start and took the lead in the first minute when Harley Curran managed to get past the full back and cross for Kieran Craig to poke the ball home from short range after the goalkeeper had fumbled.

ECU had all the early play and it was no surprise when they made it 2-0, Kieran returned the favour with a wonderful cross for Harley to chest the ball over the line. At his point, the away team had not really featured as an attacking force and when they did get forward, Kieran Coyne was making some telling interceptions, Louie Robinson was also very strong down the left hand side in defence.

After 15 minutes it was 3-0. Declan Hudson played in a superb through ball for Kieran Craig to notch his second of the game. There was no further scoring in the first half as the home team wasted a lot of possession by getting caught offside too many times.

Half Time    –    ECU  3-0  UWA Nedlands

To be fair to UWA Nedlands, they came into the game at the start of the second half and threatened the home goal on a couple of occasions. However, it was against the run of play and from a UWA corner that the home team made it 4-0. ECU goalkeeper Kyle McDonald caught the ball from the corner and immediately threw the ball out to Kieran Craig on the right wing, he knocked the ball down the line for Declan to run onto. He held off the challenge from the full back, looked up and slotted the ball past the UWA goalkeeper brilliantly.

It was soon 5-0 to ECU, Liam Hudson received the ball in midfield, advanced forward and his strike from 25 metres out was superb and the ball flew past the startled goalie. Kyle then made a good double save from a UWA free kick whilst the UWA goalkeeper also denied Oliver Ford after a fine run.

Liam then hit the top of the cross bar with another long range effort and it was inevitable when the home team made it 6-0 with 5 minutes remaining. ECU were awarded a free kick on the half way line and some quick thinking by defender Kieran Coyne who played in a superb through ball to James Lawless to confidently finish to make the final score 6-0.

At times this was a patchy performance against lowly opposition, the home side seemed a bit too anxious but they still played some good football and some of the approach play and finishing was very good. The boys now have a two week break and the next fixture is away against Stirling Lions, who with ECU are level at the top of the league. Certainly a game to look forward to and one where, hopefully they can reverse the result from the first weekend of the season when Stirling won 2-1 but were quite fortunate to do so. We are now at the half way stage of the season, the details of the season so far are below, lets hope for much the same in the second half.
