Sunday 05th June 2011 - OSSF U10 North Blue - Round 5

ECU Joondalup U9’s 7 v 1 Floreat Athena Soccer Club

For the second time in three weeks the ECU under 9’s grabbed a seven goal haul, this time at the expense of glamour club Floreat Athena.

Despite suffering a heart breaking loss in their last outing, the youngsters proved again that they possess resilience and that all important trait, bouncebackability. As early as the 3rd minute, Nathan Rhodes unleashed what is quickly becoming his trademark hammer strike which agonisingly brushed the top of the bar following some quality football through the midfield. This was a sign of things to come and it wasn’t long before Kurt Crompton got in on the act as his long range shot on 12 minutes crashed in off the far post to make it 1-0 following a great overlapping run by Aaron Louttit down the right.

A tenacious  and well organised ECU midfield were dominating possession and their superior passing and overall work rate off the ball was rewarded on 22 minutes when Theo Gilsenan dispossessed a Floreat forward, played a quick one-two with Dayan Bhudia before threading a pass  to the back post for Joe Hobson to tap in to make it 2-0. A rare Floreat counter attack just before half time was fully exploited as the busy number 7 calmly stroked the ball past a static ECU goalkeeper to make it 2-1 at the break.

The introduction of Dylan Leonard in the second half gave the youngsters an even greater attacking presence and it was Leonard’s through ball to Bhudia deep in their own half which saw the busy little midfielder run almost the full length of the pitch before squaring the ball to Freddie Sadler who saw his first time shot slide away harmlessly for a goal kick. Floreat’s respite was short lived and ECU went 3-1 up courtesy of an own goal following Leonards goal bound effort being deflected past the stranded ‘keeper.

In his first game back from injury, Saddler was proving instrumental in ECU’s attacking third and it was his jinking run down the right and subsequent cross which was met by Leonard at the far post who made no mistake from close range to make it 4-1 on 32 minutes. Leonard grabbed his second in superb fashion when he cleverly chipped a curling shot over the advancing ‘keepers head a minute later to make it 5-1. Joe Hobson also grabbed his second of the game to make it 6-1, finishing yet another slick passing move involving Gilsenan, McLaughlin and Casimir-Brown. A well deserved goal for right back Aaron Louttit just before the final whistle completed the rout as ECU ran out easy 7-1 winners.
