ECU Under 11’s  1-1  Sorrento  –  Sunday 14th August by Nick Ford

An under par performance from ECU against new opponents Sorrento ended in a 1-1 draw. Sorrento only joined the division (from a lower league) half way through the season and have managed to win every game they have played to this point. The visitors started much the brighter and looked confident on the ball while ECU, for some reason, seemed nervous and unsettled.

Sorrento took the lead on 7 minutes when the home defence had a few chances to clear the ball but failed to do so, the Sorrento forward accepted the opportunity to score into the corner. The home team continued to struggle and did not create any real chances of note, the away team on the other hand hit the post and looked likely to increase their lead. The half time whistle could not come soon enough for ECU.
Half Time – ECU  0-1  Sorrento

There was an improvement in the second half but the home team were still well below par. Having said that they still managed to equalise within 3 minutes of the re start when the referee gave a dubious hand ball decision against the Sorrento defender and Ethan Kerridge converted to make the score 1-1.

Unfortunately there were very few highlights in the second period from both teams. No clear cut chances were created by either side in the next 22 minutes, there was lots of endeavour but it was scrappy game and the final score of 1-1 was probably fair although if the away team had won, that would have been a reward for their first half performance.
The boys have a break next week while Sorrento take on leaders Stirling, which should be an interesting encounter.
